Natural Ways to Plump Your Pout
I'm sure you've seen all of the craziness lately with the #KylieJennerChallenge.. dangerous, scary and unhealthy, don't try that at home, folks. We all want to be lush-lipped vixens and it's possible! Try out a few of these natural methods and you'll be making Jay-Z jealous in no time.
1. Makeup (More natural options below)
You'll see a ton of how-to's on Pinterest showing the 'X Formation' or the 'lines down the lower lip style'.. it's unnecessary. Once your lipstick or gloss is on, those methods end up so blended that you're merely spending extra time and product. This is the best process I've found for fuller, natural looking lips.
Step 1: Outline Your Top Lip - Starting at the top of your upper lip, take a lip liner pencil and outline the natural curve of this top area. Make sure that you're 1/4 inch above the top curves. Now take these curved lines and continue down towards the end of your top lip, on both sides. Keep the line slightly outside of your natural lip line UNTIL you're just about connected with the corner, at this point bring the line onto the lip and into the pocket.
Step 2: Create the Bottom Lip Curve - Right below the center of your bottom lip (so close that you're barely off of the lip itself) draw a lightly curved line that caresses the bottom lip. Take this, on both sides, and trace to the corner pocket following the same method as the upper lip (slightly off of the lip until you reach the corner, then pull back in.)
Step 3: Add Lipstick + Blend - You can use lipstick or matte gloss but I do not recommend shiny gloss. The shine will outline your natural lip and completely give away the full lip effect. (You don't want to end up looking likeMiranda Sings.) Once main lip color is applied go back over the lip edges with the liner and pull in the lipstick color. Blend dahling, blend!
Step 4: Finishing Touches - Smooth your lips by pressing together in a slow 'pop' mouth movement. Now take a little nude colored eyeshadow on your finger and dab it into the center of your top and bottom lip. This will create more of a natural look. Make sure to do a few kissy faces for good measure. Oh, and selfies.. a must.
2. Work It Out!
Your lips contain little muscle that are just asking to be used. Work those muscles, they'll develop and you'll have fuller lips. Simple as that!
Here are a few exercises for your lips:
- Whistle while you work. A few times a day whistle a little tune for 3-5 minutes.
- This is your excuse to pout. Move lips side to side for 5 seconds on each time. Repeat 5-10 times, and throughout the day.
- The only time it's acceptable to duck face. Move those lips side to side holding in each position for 10 seconds.
You can always feel free to take up flute lessons, that'll get your pucker buff in no time!
I recommend making exfoliation a part of your weekly routine for both your face and lips. This is such a crucial piece to any beauty regimen and you'll thank yourself later in life!
Homemade Raspberry Sugar Scrub
For The Raspberry Sauce
1/4 cup water
1/4 cup sugar
For The Scrub
the raspberry sauce
1/2 cup sugar
1tsp coconut oil
small jar with lid
Make the raspberry sauce by adding the cornflour, water and sugar to a saucepan on low heat and stirring until combined. Add the raspberries and stir until the mix has completely combined and the berries have broken down. Take off the heat and allow to cool.
Step 2 -
In a small bowl, mix the sugar and coconut oil until combined. Stir until the mix is completely covered. Add in a tablespoon of the raspberry sauce and mix well. The sugar should be lightly coated in the sauce and coconut oil, if you think it looks a little damp add in another spoonful of sugar and stir.
Step 4 -
With clean hands, take a few fingers of the scrub and rub on to lips, massage gently for 3-5 minutes. Wash (or lick!) off and apply your favorite lip balm. I recommend Burt's Bees. Put the remaining sugar scrub into a little dish and store in the refrigerator. The mix will keep for 7 days. Feel free to exfoliate in another few days!
